Samuel Nelkin Park in Wallington NJ is located near the intersection of Maple Ave. and Rose St. in Wallington nearby the famous Wallington Bowling Lanes. My good friend Marina took these pictures for me. Looks like a great park to get together for a playdate. I can’t believe we never visited here, my parents live pretty close by. ADDRESS: Rose St (off Paterson Ave)
DIRECTIONS: From 46W get on 21S and take exit 11 which is Main Ave toward Passaic. Turn right onto Main Ave. After 1/3 of a mile take a sharp right onto Gregory Ave to stay on Main Ave and make another quick right onto Paterson Ave and follow for another ½ mile until you see Rose St and the sign for the park.
DESCRIPTION: One of the smaller county parks with a large sprawling playground. The playground has a castle theme with lots of fun drawbridges, walkways and ramps. Lots of shade and equipment for all ages.
PARKING: Medium lot next to playground
PICNICKING: Large picnic area and gazebo in a shady grove
HANDICAP: Paved walkways to the playground which is uphill from the parking lot. Much of the main playground equipment is accessible by ramp but quite narrow due to the castle theme. Woodchip ground cover.
CLIMBING: Two climbing walls, monkey bars, chin-up bars, chain climbing wall, log roll, rings, suspended steps and cool tube climbing structure
PLAYTHINGS: Dinosaur with stairs, tic-tac-toe, mini-theatres, looking glass, mirror, peek-a-boo cut-outs for photo ops
SEESAWS: Three animal bouncers – duck, frog and chicken
SLIDES: Four toddler, one corkscrew, one bump
SWINGS: Two toddler, four full-size
WALKING PATHS: Paved around the park
WATER: Nice pond with center fountain
OTHER COOL STUFF: County bark park with separate areas for large and small dogs
MAKE A DAY OF IT: Combine with a visit to Wallington Lanes or continue into the small town of Wallington for authentic kielbasa from Adam’s Food Market on Maple Ave.
