Alfred Vail School is located on 125 Speedwell Avenue, Morris Township NJ.
Multiple play areas at one school. Walking distance to shops and restaurants. School has a “Play it Safe†campaign underway to raise money for re-building the play areas.
Route 287 to Lafayette Ave. Straight through 1st light. Under train trestle, right onto Morris. Right onto Spring St and then up to top of hill and Right onto Speedwell. Continue on Speedwell for about a mile and the school will be on your right.
Picnicking: Adult and kid-sized tables near play equipment, Gene’s II convenience store and deli right next door to the school is perfect for picking up snacks or lunch
Climbing: Tons of log, tires, monkey and parallel bars, rings, fireman’s poles, corkscrew, rope walls, unique hanging balls with grips and handled stairs on tension rods
Playthings: Ocean scene, rotating mazes, monocular, balance beam
Sandbox: Small square one
Seesaws: Bouncy seats and chairs
Slides: One tube, eight others good for both toddlers and 5-12 year olds
Sports:
Swings: Four adult
Other Cool Stuff: Four-ball and a small wooden bridge and river rock creek bed next to school. My toddlers went over it again and again!
Make a Day of It
Visit Historic Speedwell village and/or Speedwell Lake right down the street or head in the other direction and take in lunch or dinner at Tiffany’s restaurant or Hunan Chinese Restaurant.
