We recently visited the Oak Point Area, at Turkey Swamp Park in Freehold NJ.

Turkey Swamp Park is a beautiful Monmouth County Park that is over 2,000 acres. Only had time to visit a small section in Oak Point.

How many stars would you give this park on a scale of 1-5? 3 stars (not much playground equipment in one place, but a very large wooded park that offers many other things)

Description: A very shady playground in a wooded area with bathrooms nearby. When we visited there was nobody there. My kids and I love hiking on trails and Turkey Swamp Park has plenty of them, from easy to more difficult. There are other playgrounds in the area but we weren’t able to visit. The playgrounds were covered with some leaves and dirt so you may want to bring a towel to clean off the slides. Lots of nature!

From the Monmouth County website:

“This 2,173 acre wooded park was acquired and developed with campers in mind. A major attraction is the 17-acre lake for fishing, boating, and ice-skating. The park also features miles of trails, an archery range and playgrounds.

A walk through Turkey Swamp reveals a primitive wilderness. Much of the park is forested by pitch pine and oak trees with an understory of bracken fern, pepper bush, blueberry, and catbriar. Many plants and animals associated with the NJ Pine Barrens can be found here.

Visitors to the park can fish for bass, catfish, and bluegills either from the shore or from kayaks, rowboats, canoes and paddleboats available for rental in summer. Boat rentals are available weekends only from May 1 through June 19 and then daily until Labor Day and weekends only again from Labor Day through Columbus Day. Boat rental hours are 10am-4:30pm. See the fee schedule below.”

Recommended Ages: Infant swings for little ones, and school-age playground, check out the pictures to make your own judgement.
Climbing: A very nice rockwall for climbing and monkey bars.
Sandbox: interesting structure that is on top of the sandbox, could use a fresh amount of sand
Slides: 2 regular slides and one metal.
Swings: Big kid swings and tot swings too
