I’m closely working with Amy Lamperti of the Playground Guide, a comprehensive guide to all the playgrounds in Warren County. This is an excerpt from her fantastic listing about the Walters Park in Phillipsburg. Over 25 Warren County parks are featured with color pictures in this guide + helpful information on every park in the county including those in neighboring Sussex County. These include parks in the north section of Warren-Allamuchy Mountain State Park in Sandyston, River Park Playground in Hackettstown, Green Acres in Independence and Knowlton Recreation Park. Please support our efforts in providing parents information for them to enjoy the outdoors with their kids by clicking on this link. Each purchase through the link helps us keep going and finding new places to explore ![]()

Workers are wrapping up the installation of two new play systems at Walters Park, unnecessarily replacing the old ones which had suffered some non-structural damage due to vandalism. At the same time, on the poorer side of town, the tiny Mercer Street playground continues to be loosely supported by poorly stacked cinder blocks.
can you rent the pavilion?
Hi Karen,
I think you should call the Dept of Recreation, it doesn’t say on the website except that the pavilion is a great place to have a celebration. Here is the link to the Dept. of Recreation website… http://www.phillipsburgnj.org/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=29&Itemid=40
Good luck!
Sheila
There are exposed concrete footings under the tube slide and at the base of the climbing net. Exposed concrete footings are a violation of the Consumer Products Safety Commission Handbook for Public Playground Safety, Publication 325, Section 3.6 Tripping Hazards. The NJ Playground Subcode 5:23-11.1 requires compliance with The Handbook by all government playground owner/operators. Those footings are a Priority 1 hazard with the potential for death or permanent disability as defined by the National Playground Safety Institute.
