Editor’s Note: Ahhhhh summer picnics, get togethers, etc. Although this park has NO PLAYGROUND, it is a beautiful scenic place for a low key get together, featuring great picnic areas with shelters. Although the pedal boats are not operating regularly, you may catch them on a day they have a group reservation that will use them. (You should definitely call first). This park was first suggested during one of our polls: Favorite NJ park to bike/hike, and then my friend mentioned it has been their go-to place for hiking, fishing and picnics. They were soooo right. On with the review!


Silas Condict Park is located in Kinnelon, NJ.

“A pristine and picturesque seven-acre lake is partially lined with weeping cherry trees. In the summer, fishing is enjoyed by many, and with advanced reservations, paddle boats are available for rental to compliment additional reservations from Memorial Day through Labor Day. In the winter, cross-country skiing and snowshoeing is enjoyed at this general-purpose Park.

The Park also offers a variety of reservable picnic areas, picnic shelters, and tents for family barbecues or celebrations, as well as corporate gatherings. A softball field is also available for rental.”

So we went here on a beautiful sunny summer’s day, with our picnic blanket, fishing poles and friends. Luckily a group gathering had a big enough reservation that they had the paddle/pedal boats opened for the day, so we went out with the kids. The kids had fun playing with a soccer ball, and then our friends went for a hike. Here are the pics of the place. Just gorgeous! Great fishing area too..

From the Morris county parks website: “Information on picnic facilities, tents, The Casino, and ball field reservations may be obtained by contacting the Reservation Office at 973.326.7631. Any group of 25 or more individuals is required to make reservations. There are also a number of small non-reservable picnic areas available.”
